It is with deep sadness that the family of Barry Taylor announced his passing on January 30th, 2025. Barry was a beloved member of Ilkley Chess Club and a former secretary of the BDCA. His warm, kind-hearted nature left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him, while he remained a fierce and respected competitor in the Bradford league.
David Adam and some of Barry’s close friends had the opportunity to visit him several times before Christmas, sharing how Barry faced his illness with great dignity and unwavering optimism. He found joy in the company of his family, his dogs, and, of course, his passion for chess.
Barry Taylor will be deeply missed by all at Ilkley Chess Club, the BDCA, and the broader chess community.
His funeral will take place on Tuesday, February 25th, at the RC Church in Otley at 11:00 am.
