Competitions
The BDCA has several different competitive formats that account for all preferences:
Hepolite
The Hepolite is a five-round swiss-based rapidplay competition with a time control of 20 minutes with a 10 second increment. Teams are made up of three players who each play two games of alternating colours against the opposition.

Clough
The Clough is a classical five-round swiss-based competition with a handicap system. The time control for the Clough is 1 hour 20 minutes with a 10 second increment, each team consists of four players who each play one game per match. The winner of the match will be determined by the total of the game points plus any handicap points, Handicap points are calculated based on this table:

BDCA League
The BDCA League is a classical league comprising three divisions, all with a time control of 1 hour 20 minutes with a 10 second increment. each team consists of four players who each play one game per match.

Individual Competitions
The BDCA host classical five round swiss-based competitions for individual players at all levels, the time control for these events is 1 hour 20 minutes with a 10 second increment and the rating sections are: The Barnett Trophy (Open), The Parkinson Trophy (U1900), The Hutchinson Trophy (U1700), and The Bak Trophy (U1500)
